This proposed satellite extension of Cornell University at Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn, New York, represents a bold synthesis of environmental and social considerations. Expanding upon the history and the environment of the site, the project aims at creating a new paradigm of scholarly investigation and public involvement. Floyd Bennett Field which is now a part of the Gateway National Recreation Area was an active military airfield and is characterized by large open space, protected natural area and unique coastal environment. The width of this academic scope requires a sensitive reorientation of the built environment against the ecological backdrop.
